View Full Version : Clutch take up point - poll for unmodified A3s

June 7th, 2004, 12:27 PM
Further to discussions on the A4 forum...
... I am keen to understand where the clutch takes up on other unmodified A3s.

My car had its' master cylinder replaced, and the take up point changed significantly. I'm thinking the adjusting rod mechanism requires adjustment (per Derek's post) but would like to confirm where the take up point is on other similar cars (so I know I'm not going completely nuts).

Please select the poll answer that best equates to the clutch take up point on your car as shown in the diagram below:

(Excuse my dodgey graphic drawing ability....)

Many thanks......

Ken, I have original clutch etc and it takes up around 3.5 - 4 too. This may change once I start applying the Chux launch technique. :(

I normally drive an A4 with a take up point of 4.5 - 5.0.

I drove an A3 with stock clutch this weekend - and actually had trouble with it for a couple seconds till I realised the take up point was much lower than I was used to - down at 3.

The A3 is in a lot better condition than the A4 though - that may explain the difference....
