Introducing myself.
My name is Emerson. Much like pretty much everyone else here, I really want an RS6 wagon - V8 would do fine, but the big new V10 is simply astonishing. I'm 35, and I've just acquired my first Audi, a 1998 A3 1.8T, that was well looked after (full Audi dealer service history) until the owner before me, who decided it needed a big shiny SAAS air filter, a multi-colour DRIFT boost gauge poorly mounted on to the top of the dash, and a boost adjustment screw left flapping about at the end of its pipes next to the engine.
The dealer I acquired it from had their mechanic remove the filter and boost adjuster, and an original airbox reinstalled, to get past Victorian roadworthiness standards, before they transferred the rego in to my name. I still have the filter and boost screw, and I have no idea at all what else may have been done under the bonnet. The car doesn't idle smoothly most of the time, but for $12,000 with a year's rego, it's easily the best car I've ever owned.
The interior is in great condition, and I just removed the original Eurovox head unit and 6 CD stacker today, and managed to replace it with a Pioneer MP3 unit, thanks to some advice I found lying about on this site. It's black, and I picked it up at a used car dealer on Sydney Road, in Fawkner, Melbourne. Anyone who might have any history on this car that they can throw my way would be greatly appreciated - I'm happy to be contacted directly by email at emerthis@gmail.com
The car has about 135,000km on the clock, and its front bar has been cut out rather raggedly, presumably in an effort to improve airflow. I will be looking for a new front spoiler (below the bumper) in the reasonably near future - but first I need to upgrade the cheap tyres that have been put on the front - and before that the timing belt needs replacement (ouch!). The car has what look to be stock 15" alloy rims, with an unmarked full-size spare in the boot. I'm thinking Kmho Ecsta, or maybe Michelin/Pirelli - but the Kumho tyres are good enough for race cars, and a darn sight cheaper than the Euros for good, grippy tyres - so again, suggestions are welcome. The car has cheap Michelins on the back, but they will suffice for a while yet (will swap front for rear this weekend).
So I say thanks to those knowledgeable folk who have posted such useful information here already, and ask you all to bear with me while I adjust to the prestige of a German car, with its leather interior and other assorted goodness.
