Hey All
Just wondering if anybody else has ever had this problem
99 S3
My air con for some reson seems to stop working, eg: goes very humid rather than cold air for some reason. After about 10/20 minutes, or if the window or sun roof is opened. If I stop/turn off the car for 5 mins or so and restart seems to start to work again for 10/20 mins. It seems to stay on longer if the climate control is set to LOW and fan speed 2 rather than full bull !! where it would turn off after 1/2 mins
I have been told my AUDI that i need regassing, but surly it would not work at all if there was no gas ???
I am thiking that the thermonitor may be playing up.
Any Ideas ?? with what might be going on
Also does any body know of a Air con shop that knows about AUDI rather than taking the car to AUDI ??
Damm it's been HOT !!

It could be icing up the evaporator.......where are you located?

Sydney...
I should have mentioned, after turning itself off, the fan does not stop looks totally normal via the display. It sometimes may start again after a while and then again stop blowing cold air..

What part of Sydney would be best for you?
I am in the auto A/C parts business and can ask our Sydney office who is best to take it to.

Liverpool/Bankstown
Whats the standard looking fee: AUDI want $150 just to look at it ...
I only want to take it some where that knows AUDI Air con otherwise like anything with AUDI one thing leads to another fault and so on ..
Let me know !!

Try Hahn Automotive in Botany. This is where I would take my car if I lived in Sydney.

It could be a few things causing your problem.
1. Evap icing up due to defective temp sensor.
2. Lack of refrigerant. (if it was completely empty it shouldn't run at all)
3. Faulty compressor.....yours is a variable displacement comp and these can behave strangely when they are faulty.
4. About 20 other things...........
Give Hahn a call and tell them what car you have and what the problem is, they will probably ask you to bring it in so they can diagnose it.
They wont be cheap, but they should be good.

My wifes's '97 Corolla is doing EXACTLY the same thing lately, and cos Corolla's never break down, I am thinking it is the Air con needing gas.

Forget Hahn Automotive! :thumbs_dn:

Try Derek from European Autotech. He is an Audi specialist and does air conditioning. He's just replaced the compressor on my A3T. I live at Picnic Point and it was worth the journey! (1 hour by car/2 hours by public transport)

Hi
As Urban says its probably the evap icing up.
Any reputable a/c shop should be able to look after this for you.
If you would like to drive to Mona Vale I could do it for you also.
Amps Auto Electrical on Parramatta Rd Leichardt 9568 4881 is a superb option in my opinion. Many dealings over the years and very happy with them.
Regards
Derek

Sorry to inform you Costa but Mullers don't do air-conditioning . They don't have any equipment there .

Hi All
For those that are intrested, I took the car to Hi Tech Auto electrics and Air in Aleaxndra.
Found to be a faulty Compressor gauge, its just infront of the firewall so there was a bit of labor to get it fixed, the air cons now "As Cool As Ice" all of time ... The gauge was about $250 , but well worth it.
Gary from High Tech also does a lot of EFI stuff on BM's and Audi, and is a very professional company to deal with..Highly reccomended. :D
