Just to close the loop on this, ended up pulling off the valley cover and simply having to replace a gasket.

Long story short, no joy with cleaning + conditioning unfortunately. An auto trimmer said it's just the single panel that needs replacing so shouldn't be overly complex. Thanks for the help :)

re: the UV option - if it's the valley pan gasket which appears to be buried fairly deep (as per the writeup here https://tinyurl.com/44wyj3hk), would the UV additive be see-able?
