Thread: Replacement of the caliper face plate

    Default Replacement of the caliper face plate

    Has anyone performed the removal of the caliper face plate? I want to paint the black face plate tornado red to match the remainder of the caliper and cannot find any detail on how these are removed?
    I presume the caliper needs to be removed but thought Id ask before attempting it...

    Looking at the parts picture you have a faceplate with two plain location studs and two friction inserts. I would guesstimate that the caliper locating holes house the friction retainers and then the face plate just presses in. On that basis the face plate should just pry off. Try a plastic trim tool and see what happens.

    Do you reckon that you need to remove the pads to then reinstall?

    Frankly no idea but I wouldn't have thought so. From the pictures it just looks like a push fit.

    In the examples of this type of retainer I have used, the clip is placed in the recess and usually has a protrusion that locks it in the hole, then the studs are just pushed into the location holes and retained by friction from the captive clips. I can only go on the photos that you have posted but surely there is some info on the net, breakdown drawing etc.

    Your insights are valuable. I couldnt find anything. Perhaps I wasnt searching effectively but alas...thanks again, though. Very helpful.
