The 80 quattro b4 is my daily, I got it tweaked and now running e85 with advanced timing and cold start, in about 3 months it will be fitted with a NA 5 cylinder (10v NG) - I have a b4 2.3 with NG engine not pictured that I purchased in Adelaide and will drive it home next month. The NG 10V install in the 80 quattro and engineers certification will set it up for eventual install of the stroker.

The convertible Im not sure why I have it, but im certainly hanging on to it for a bit.
What Im really excited about is the 90 quattro 2.3 (91). Im likely to give it a satin clear topcoat for a patina look and it will be left exactly as is, it drives great and sounds better, but its a museum piece for (me) now.

Awesome so glad a few others on here are doing some cool stuff with older cars!! Where did you find the 90?? That 7a head on ng block is a great way to drop compression and then turbo!! How many cars are st your place now lol. Also when you in Adelaide let me know if you want to check out my b2 quattro

The 90 came courtesy of a member on here, There was quite the swap meet going on, Thing is I told the wife I was unloading cars (I did, and 3 of them) but ended up getting 4 (and possibly a 5th) so net gain 1.
=7 for me (I did buy one for the wife.. a 5 cylinder turbo diesel)

As for modifying the NG, I have to see how the engine swap goes, when the NG is out of the 80 I can line it up with the tall deck diesel block and see if they share mounts or not. Hopefully the mount mods will work for both blocks- paving the way for the stroker block to go in the B4 80 quattro. The NG will stay NG top and bottom and non turbo im pretty sure at this stage, a quick check of the rules -VSB 14 VEHICLE STANDARDS BULLETIN V2.0 Jan 2011 seems that I might get away without needing a engineers certificate- although I will talk to an certifying engineer one first!- but engine management might if I deviate there.

So on to the 80 Quattro..

Im in the process of obtaining a 7A motor (Twin cam , 20v inline 5 cylinder, NA) , harness and ecu

I will likely stick it in the 80 in the disguise as a NG engine (use a NG block NA single cam 10v inline cylinder, with pistons and head from the 7a)
this way I get a engine I can work with in the future (fueling/turbo) for the inspection it will be recorded as a "NG" engine as the number is on the block.... and as this engine came in the b4 80 quattro I might not need to "engineer certificate" it at this stage.

    crasy? foolhardy?

not done yet- that intake manifold would be ideal for some post throttle body port runner e85 injection so I can run a little more boost without an inter cooler.. a bit like the 034 Motorsport 7a turbo kit with the higher boost option.

will need some type of homebrew injector driver in addition to the factory injectors. and then it shouldn't be too hard fooling a off the shelf turbo chip to run e85, (I dont plan on programming this type of ecu yet/if ever)

    A small update,
The 7A motor (components) leave in a day or 2 from USA airfreight. with new "asbestos" regulations and all the hassle of trying to organise sea freight for the motor, it has been disassembled instead, and now the block and crank stays.
Oil pan/oil pump/2 sets rods pistons (7a), 7a cyl head (stock- reconditioned), 7a water manifold, intake manifold, throttle body, bag o snakes exhaust manifold, flywheel, ecu and harness comes.

To ship sea freight was going to cost over $1000 aus and then the chances it getting stopped for an asbestos free certificate (I need to provide after lab testing if requested- and if even a trace is found the shipment wont get to me)

So I opted for broken down into "parts" and airfreight- avoiding all the "dock side" regulations.
I had it packed by a pack and ship agent as they will handle all the paper work and it gets delivered to my door. They prepare the commercial invoice- I hope this extra effort pays off and it gets thru customs like any of my airfreight goodies under $1000 AUD have done in the past- no problems what so ever.
