Not keen on a S/H pump.....Its a pretty important kit and I think it needs to be new.
    Thanks anyway.

I might need to get a pic of the old pump to compare.

They had a car model picker on ebay for the VDO pump I just had to guess which variant yours was. Looking at the compatability table on the listing it covers pretty much all A6 variants from 2005 to 2011.

Mechanics finally admitted defeat.....so I have to buy one myself.

Thanks for th Europa tip. I bought that one. Postage was $105US but it still came out at half the cost than if I bought from Audi. Got a fuel filter as well.
Coming via Fedex so should get here quick. We will see.

    Thanks or your help guys.

The FP from Europarts arrived yesterday and my wife had time to take it around to the mechanics the same day.
I was a bit nervous whether it was the right pump as it came from the US and would cost alot to send back. Not to mention more time off the road....
I cracked and rang the mechanics to find out. It was the correct one and my car was ready...woo hoo.
Thanks for the heads up on Europarts and the correct pump part number guys. Pump was $219 US but with exchange rate and FexEX ( eek! ) it came to $530 AUS. Still cheaper than Audi but still spendy....
I bought the old pump home to pull it down to see what was the cause of stopping. Not gone in yet.It looks like it would be easy to just replace the pump itself and then have a spare assembly.
Not sure I would need one though...who knows. Also other parts may have aged and be ready to fail...
