Default Car just died on me

    2006 Audi A6 3.2, 150 000km, original fuel pump AFAIK.

Was driving home yesterday, with cruise control on at 80 km/h and the car just died and the EPC light came up.
Motor will crank and sort of fire but won't keep going.
I got it towed home ( thankful only about 4 km away ) and busted out the VAGCOM cable and software to see whats going on.
I found 3 fault codes. Saved them, cleared them and tried to start...same thing.
It looks to me that the fuel pump has failed.
No Audi dealer within 200 km of me and I don't think I'd get them to do it anyway.....

Local VW dealer is not interested...weird....

I cannot hear the pump when I turn the key on and don't recall if i should be able to to or not? I never took any notice.....

Anybody know if the tank has to be dropped to change the pump?
I should be able to change it myself, except not keen on laying on the ground to do it....lol

Anybody know of a good source for a new pump, besides Audi? Not sure our local autoparts store would be much help.

It could be fuel pump failure/fuel pressure regulator clogged or fuel filter.

Check for any Leake in fuel line.
Check when was fuel filter replaced.
If fuel pressure regulator is old replace it.
Have your high pressure fuel pump checked.

I will start with fuel filter.

    Aah...

From the last code it looks like fuel pump is creating the Drama mate.

Check the fuse first and then fuel pump.

I checked the fuel pump fuse: ok.
Each time I turn the key on I can hear a faint buzz for a second near the tank. I gave the fuel tank a bit of a thump, and the car started.
I guess that is the problem and needs changing.
Are there 2 fuel pumps on these cars? A LP pump in the tank and a HP pump in the engine bay?

Yes you do have a LPFP in the tank. It's a easy removal and install. OEM part no 4F0919087F.

Got the car taken to a local mechanic a few days ago. They are having problems finding a new one. Had one sent from E/States and its wrong....

Quote from Audi was ~$730 and its on backorder anyway.
    messaged Lintrex in Perth...no go....
Mechanic is waiting for replay from Pace. ( not sure where they are....)

Anybody got a good source for things like that?
Can see them in the US, but not sure if thats an option. (postage )Have emailed Europarts in NJ to find out.
