Can never predict when large capacity cars are going to get slammed with extra taxes. Been an interesting piece on the new London ULEZ. Approx $25 a time if you drive inside the zone. All done on rego plates and for example the B5 RS4 comes in Euro 2 and Euro 3 specs over it's short life. Have the wrong one, live in the wrong place and it's $50 a day just to come and go.
Yes crystall balling how far off are we from paying subscription fees to use public roads. I.e companies like transurban will have long term leaseson all roads with the gov and charge you subscription / user fees ( a toll on a slow road) with all distances travelled tracked to the meter and different rate apply based on your carbon emissions ( governments carbon emissions collector. So does that mean car clubs of the future will involve you buying a share in private roads in the country along with titled garages and a centralised fuel farm where we will store our high octane fossil engines if you want to experience a bit of WOT with a engine note closer to 100db than silence ( electric motor).

Having just been in London for 3 months, they have an enviable public transport system so one would hope the real need to drive in the centre of London, regardless of whether or not your vehicle is emissions complaint, is fairly remote.
That said the London authorities can charge as much as they see fit and the West End will still be frequented by young, Middle Eastern Bentley owners to whom cost is never an issue.
Australia would do well to break out of its deadlock on accepting the World's worst fuel standards imaginable to allow us to import engines operating at Euro equivalent standards and gain the efficiency dividends that result - performance, consumption and emission.

Wrong stick Dingah, these guys live in outer London and drive B5 era cars. Just crossing the ring road costs $25 a day, they aren't driving into central London. There is a congestion charge of $20 a day there as well. Example, the early B5 RS4 is Euro2 and the later Euro3 and it's all done via plate recognition and your VIN. Quite complex according the those who are actually in the know and not a little confusing.

They aren't silvertails in Bentleys, normal enthusiasts in 20 year old cars with a problem when new legislation does not cater for residents.

To be equally pedantic but correct, the post in question referred to the NEW ULEZ which is central London and the vast majority of Bentley drivers are residents not visitors.
Yes the PROPOSED ULEZ goes out to the ring road but is yet to be ratified and is forecast for a 2021 inception.
There is a let out clause for 'enthusiasts in 20 year old cars' though = GBP12.50/day which is around the cost of a return rail ticket (not including parking) to the City centre.
One imagines when the zone moves out that far and brings in suburbs like Acton, Ealing and Shepherds Bush there will be many who are not enthusiasts but are simply owners of old cars as they can afford nothing newer.

Seems this car has been on the hustings since April last year or longer. The price has been up and down and this extreme caught me. Price on 29 Dec

and of course it's been all the variants in between over time. Maybe it's a good buy and maybe there is a reason why no one has snapped it up on the downswings. ????

Maybe the RNS being locked (look at screen pic) is a sign that something is not right with the car??

Beaut, but one could be convinced that you only want a car to (reliably) drive. Where's the adventure in that? B5 / C5 keeps you on your toes.

Could be. They're a lazy lot, I made an inquiry some time before buying mine and just no reply. Also they may have disconnected the battery in the past but on mine it recognizes the radio and just reconnects automatically so probably not the right answer. You'd think the floor plan is costing them a mint. The ideal buyer is probably someone who has never seen an Audi before.
