You're doing well. I wrote to Audi Australia a while ago and this morning I got a mass of emails in return. Of the 4 Audi I happen to have, Audi reckon that they have no record of three. I've sent them the selling dealers and dates (all Australian delivered) but one of them was the A4 I bought new so there has been no change of owner ever submitted. On that basis, I would think myself lucky to get a notification at any stage. If others are in the same position then there is a chance that you may have a car with the air bag in question but no way of letting you know.

You are correct and I confirmed it a while ago. I inspected the airbag myself. I have a 2000 S4 Avant

I took my registered A4 to a dealer to have them confirm it's not affected. Because it wasn't on the recall list they said they'll charge me $110 to do the inspection, which they never said they'd do when I made the booking. I was rather annoyed by that and didn't go ahead. But seeing I know mine is a TRW airbag I'm going to leave it. I suggest anyone with a car in the affected models do their own checking of their individual car. It's two torx screws from the back of the steering wheel and the whole horn pad with the airbag inside comes off from the front. If it is a Takata unit then take it back to Audi as a start.

I've seen posts confirming you can register the car. Try going online to pay rego, that's what we do in ACT. Let us know your experience. Which state are you in?

    I know what you're saying.
There's a lot of doubt about what to do.
My advice is contact your Motor Registry and the 3rd Party Insurer to find out what their procedure and costs to you could be.
After that email Audi Dealer with any questions, comments and wait for a reply.

I have a B5 that I'm working on that has run out of rego and needs clutch repairs.
I was on the phone, but I said I wanted to see the documentation, firms etc. before I can decide what to do with the car.
I'm expecting a reply from Audi Centre by email to say exactly what options and procedures they have to follow.

I am assuming that your vehicle is old enough to require a pink slip (roadworthiness cert). Perhaps you can obtain the pink slip first before purchasing the CTP (green slip)?

Only comment I'd make is with us all potentially in different states with different procedures, information on here can be really misleading in a general sense. The bits I don't know:

Is there any formal link between your VIN, airbag brand at manufacture, confirmation that airbag has been replaced under compulsory recall and the state registration authority?

Is the State rego authority formally monitoring the VIN of cars subject to formal recall and also the advice issues that are not yet a recall?

Which if any cars will not be allowed to re-register?

Why can't you change steering wheel and airbag, modify the wiring as needed? By a qualified person, not a home brew job. That cannot be beyond AUDI to sort.

Short answer is yes, there is a link for Compulsory Recalls. My A3 8P had a Compulsory Recall and if it had not been repaired, ACT Registration could not have been renewed.
Under the Regulatory Framework set up by the Department of Infrastructure, Car Companies are required to provide updates to the ACCC & Relevant State and Territory about the
Status of Repair using the Takata VIN status report form

Is the State rego authority formally monitoring the VIN of cars subject to formal recall and also the advice issues that are not yet a recall?
See above. (I can't quote where I read that there are expected delays according to the PPSR)

Which if any cars will not be allowed to re-register?
Can't answer that question at the moment, as our group members are currently monitoring web traffic.

Our group is waiting for a formal response from Audi to that very question.
