Thread: Advice on RS5 purchase

    Default Advice on RS5 purchase

Hi all, I'm new here and will be purchasing my first Audi in March or April, so looking for a bit of advice.

I've decided on an RS5 Sportback, as this seems to have the right combination of awesomeness and practicality that I'm looking for. I don't think there's anything else quite like it on the market. And this will be, by far, the most expensive car I've ever bought!

Firstly, I intend to keep the car for quite a while, so would like extended service and warranty. I assume I could get 5 years, but have no idea how much this would cost. Is this something that you would consider value for money if I get it?

I know the after-sales team at the dealer would try and push paint protection, but I'd rather get it done somewhere else if I can get a better product. I'm considering PPF on the front bumpers, lights etc., and and ceramic coating over the whole car. Any recommendations of where to get this done and how much it should cost?

I've also been looking at video of exhaust mods. Not really interested in performance gains (the Mrs will also be using the car!) but would be interested in potentially getting a better sound, especially if it works with the built-in comfort/dynamic settings to keep it quiet for the neighbours but can let rip on the open road. I've seen Milltek, Armytrix etc. all offer these types of products, but have no idea as to which ones might be better. Don't want to spend the cash if it's not really worth it!

Finally, if I'm spending that much money, it would be great to get something really unique. Does anyone have any experience of ordering with a factory custom paint job? I imagine there are a number of trade-offs in doing this, with a longer wait time and less ability to negotiate a discount being the main ones. Any idea how much extra this costs, and how long this can take from order to delivery?

    Thanks in advance!

For the coating, plenty of places that do it. I go to Frank at Definitive Detailing... Seeing the range of cars he does (ferraris, lambos etc), you know you are in good hands!

Expect $1.2 to $2K depending on what you get done (inside, wheels, glass etc)..

Does Audi offer the akropovic exhaust as an option (sports?) If so, that should be fine for you!

    Welcome.
What a great choice whatever the colour.
Where are you living/nearest Audi dealership.
I very strongly commend using PRIVATE FLEET.
If you're with the NRMA, their service is offered free.
Simply work out exactly what you want plus and things you might give up at a push then call Private Fleet.
I've used them on a couple of new Audi purchases and they have achieved getting my local Canberra dealership (who are great) to quote against their tender for a price several thousand below my/their lowest offer and with servicing/extended warranty thrown in.
Make sure you are ready when you call them as they will likely put the tender out the following day.
Supply right now is likely going to be your biggest issue.
    Good luck.

Never heard of Private Fleet, so thanks for the advice!
My nearest dealership would be Artarmon, followed by Mosman. A mate got a good deal on an S3 at Mosman and was going to introduce me to his guy there, but this sounds like potentially less hassle to get a good deal.

    Correct!
It's far less hassle and under normal market circumstances provides access to deals and prices individuals cannot find.
I have dealt (at range) with Audi Mosman and they were extremely keen to get the deal I was after and had very sharp pencils.
Suggest that, without committing, to entertain them and see what you can achieve as you will need to provide Private Fleet with your confidential bottom line.
Good luck and hope it works out.

You were right about supply - not much about! So I've pulled the trigger on an Daytona Grey with blacked out badges via PrivateFleet. Just about to get shipped, I believe, so should have it around mid-April-ish. Still hasn't sunk in that I'm going to actually getting one of these bad boys!

Pleased that Private Fleet worked out for you - it's so nice to avoid all the hassle of negotiating and still get a good price.
It will be a joy to own - now for the small wait.

Thanks for the info guys. I have just purchased a 2011 RS5 Limited Edition that I am getting an inspection done on Thursday. Look forward to taking ownership later this week.
