Default Audi MY15 Virtual Cockpit retrofit- help

    Hi

Was looking for advice on fitting a Virtual Cockpit to my s3. Have done a lot of reading around here and other forums and seem to have come up with a list of parts needed and have Audi in cairns saying that if I install the parts and they pass the ODIS check for not been stolen they can remove the protection.

I have a wreaking yard who is willing to sell me a VC for $650. I can get the connection harness from AliExpress and fitting parts for $350-ish … Audi will charge $190 for removing the protection and mating to my s3 and when I find a steering wheel for a vc will be able to navigate the dashboard and change appearance etc. I know from reading elsewhere that without upgrading the mmi I will only have maps on half the cockpit(this is fine for me personally)

Am I on the right track here or would I need anything else? Or has someone here ever done this upgrade

    Cheers for reading

    Adam

Wow, I haven't heard of anybody in Oz doing this yet... a VC for $650 sounds like it's really cheap (do they know what they are selling)? I would have though it was much more than that.

Check out the international forums, especially the ones in the UK. They have many more people there, so it's likely that one of them may have already done/tried this.

Hey that’s what I thought I said nothing to the bloke selling it as I was expecting something like 1.5k maybe. Good to know, been seeing a few successful retrofits so the only thing I saw holding me up here was someone to code it. I have a good relationship with My local Audi dealership and they haven’t seen it done before but because it was an option in the a3/s3 tec package coding shouldn’t be a problem and am willing to take the risk / gamble to end up with the VC.

When I start ordering the parts and putting it all together wil post it. Only thing about the whole situation is having to cut the analogue supports away so the VC will fit.

An update for anyone Interested before trying to get a VC into a my13-16

Well, unfortunately this is not possible anymore from Feb / 2021

Audi have a new procedure which comes up in Odis which is paperwork/ email and needs to manually be approved before the next step in Odis can happen. Know of 3 ppl who have tried and get knocked back

If anyone has anything to add or knows of anyone anywhere that can get around this send me a message

    Yep

At least this will show others and if anything can save them a few dollars and time.

    Here’s the Audi email

Due to more stringent security requirements, the service process for installing used immobiliser
control units (from February 2021 onwards) has been modified (see list).
    • In future, you will need to apply for approval from AUDI AG to install any used immobiliser control
    units.
    • The application is shown automatically when you attempt to adapt the immobiliser control unit
using the ODIS tester (or a laptop with ODIS access).
    • Print out the application, sign it and send it to the e-mail address given in the application.
    • The department in charge of approvals will check that the application is correct and complete.
    • You will then receive an e-mail with information regarding the outcome of your application.
    • Please note: It may take up to 48 hours before you receive a reply.
    • Once approval has been granted, it is only possible to adapt the control unit to the vehicle
identification number documented in the application. There is no time limit for doing this.
This currently affects the following control units:
    Instrument cluster
    Audi TT (FV) 2015 >
    Audi A3 (8V/ FF) 2013 >
    Audi Q2 (GA) 2017 >
    Audi Q3 (F3) 2019 >
    Convenience system central control unit
    Audi A4 (8K/ FL) 2008 > 2015
    Audi A5 (8T/ FR/ 8F/ FH) 2008 > 2015
    Audi Q5 (8R/ FP) 2009 > 2015
    Audi A6 (4G/ FC) 2011 > 2017
    Audi A7 (4G/ FC) 2011 > 2017
    Audi A8 (4H/ FD) 2010 > 2017
    Audi R8 (FX) 2015 >
This list may be extended to include other control units at any time.

Whilst I can't provide you with a specific contact who will be able to help, I would suggest that there is likely someone in Poland or Lithuania who can assist with a workaround for this.

I would suggest doing some further research on some of the international Audi forums (particularly the UK and Euro based groups) as I'm sure there will be some intel on this there.

To add to the above, it may involve 'virginising' the cluster by way of a reflash to make it think it is a new cluster rather than used.

Good luck with the search and let us know how you get on.

Well I have the parts now just need a way forward. Kicking myself as if didn’t procrastinate and did before February would be on my way to Audi for CP removal

Will persist and cross my fingers
