    Default Rego puzzles

Rego time again and the renewals arrived today. On the basis that weight, number of cylinders, Capacity?, power output etc etc all should be factors and the RS6 has more of everything than the RS4 on every count, why would the RS4 cost more to get the third party insurance component of rego than the RS6 with every company other than NRMA?

    One of life's puzzles.

Insurance also takes analytics from crash statistics as well.
If more rs4's are involved in accidents, they're seen as more likely to be involved in accidents, therefore demanding a higher premium.

    Hope this helps.

Not really. When there are maybe 27 RS6 and 40 odd RS4, there aren't a lot to be involved in enough accidents to be statistically relevant. They appeal to different demographics as well. A lot of current model RS drivers wouldn't be interested in the B5 / C5 range so their stats are irrelevant to the small group that have the older cars.

Would it not be possible for insurers to base the rs range off of their base series?
So, more a4 range vs a6 range?

Anything is possible but comparing a $45,000 car with a $200,000 car and the variances of their buyer attitudes to road safety etc is a long shot in any language. I am but a humble consumer of the outcome and have no basis on how the companies base their categories. A genuine mystery.
