Hi all
Another hiccup happened, my luck in 2023 has been pretty meh so far =/
So brake pads sensor light came up a few months ago. Was quoted ridiculous amount for OEM parts (front and rear pads, front rotors, ~$2000 + $500 for labor). Checked how much was left on the pads - still almost 5mm, given it is not a daily commuter car - decided these could stay in while I order aftermarket parts. Ended up getting brembo rotors and ceramic pads (~$800 in total), woo no brake dust!
So service appointment to get the parts installed is next week. However yesterday, was surprised by a thick smudge of grease on garage floor. After taking the wheel off (front left) - found out that outer CV joint boot is torn, the grease was coming out of it and everything was in that grease. After finger checking inside the tear, my mate pulled out a piece of sensor wire - it must have somehow caught up on something and torn the boot.
After brake pads light came up I only drove her 1500km max. Apparently due to vibration and etc it was enough for the said wire to get out of where it was tucked and do the damage.
tl;dr: replace your pads asap once the light comes up. Or Cut the loose part of sensor, or perhaps remove it all together.
Now hoping that universal replacement joint boot would fit.
hope your 2023 started off better than mine!
