2016 Q7 Timing Chain replacement

Hello all.

2016 q7 4M 3.0 diesel. 170,000km.

The car needs the timing chains / tensioner / guides etc replaced.

I took the car to a mechanic today, (who incidentally was the worse mechanic I’ve been to in my life, and that’s saying something), who quoted me $12,000.

Given that’s just ridiculous, I wanted to throw the question out there to ask if anyone has had this work done on their audi, and if so what rough cost they paid, and better still where they got the work done.

I’m out in the eastern suburbs of Victoria.

Alternative is I just do it myself, but the car has an extended warranty so my preference is to go that route if I can.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Wow 12k that is ridiculous!

I would have thought about $1200 to $1500 for labor plus parts.

From memory it takes some 36 hours to do the job. Find a mechanic for under $100 an hour and you'd have to wonder, what with their rent, insurance, equipment etc. Dealers are heading for $200 an hour. Luckily the person who employs you knows what you are worth.

Hey team.
Just to close this out, I ended up doing it myself.
Engine out, onto the bench…..all new chains, guides, gears etc.

Saved myself thousands!

Sure did! - And theres nothing i like more than hearing an Audi mechanic say "theres no way you can do this in your garage at home without a hoist".....................and me saying "Hold my beer" LOL

Bloody legend!

A lot of the Audi specialists love to pretend how complicated they are so they can bump up the pricing!

Any hints and tips for others?
