2020 RS3 owner's thread

So finally DS1'd the whip, upgrading from Unitronic stage 2 U98. Started out with a file that Domino uses on his car but my injectors weren't liking it and were maxing out pretty quick. Which also affected the amount of boost that we could play with.

So the tuner went with a different strategy (without having to upgrade injectors) and backed off the boost and kept under the tolerances of the stock injectors. making better power with a little less torque, but sustained torque in the midrange. Nice and smooth, without any spikes or such, which help from keeping rods getting bent. Tried a higher and lower torque file as well. I've stuck with the higher torque file for now.

Final result between the Unitronic and the DS1. Remembering that Uni was using a beta file for DNWA engines.

Goes to show that you really should go with a custom tune, as all cars don't behave the same, even when given the exact same map.

Yeah, they still service the car for the first 3 years. I just tell them to not flash the ECU and TCU. And make sure they don't wash the car, plus tell them any niggles that the car has like squeaky sunroof and any rattles in the car (I have one that sounds like it's coming from the door card behind me). That's about it. We'll see what happens when I pick the car up this afternoon.

Of course, I can't claim any drivetrain related issues from here on in, due to the mods made.

Cheers, decided to go to Richmond where I bought the car, used Brighton in the past, but no pro's or con's. By the way you guys had any issues with the washer jets all over the place, the 2016 RS3 did the same, for car worth over $100K is not good. Also in bright sunlight I get a lot of multi-color speckle from the front windscreen, ? faulty glass?

Joe Cool how was the service at Brighton?

Service at Brighton was fine. I've been using them for in-warranty servicing for my last 3 cars. Only thing I found was they wiped all my VCDS mods. I'll just have to go back in and do them again!

As for the jets you describe, one of the first mods to do is replace them with the misting jest from the A6. Originals I got here:

Easy 2 minute replacement.

Can't say anything about experience with the windshield other than Audi glass is f*cking soft. All 3 of my Audis have suffered either cracked glass or chips.

It's when they turn on to lanky teenagers that the rs6 comes in to its own!

Yep that’s what I’ve been told, the rear facing car seat isn’t as long

The wife’s exclusive s5 sb finally got built after repeated delays and is on the water

After a lot of maneuvering by my dealer I secured an rs6 build slot for end of year, and Audi finally agreed to doing an exclusive color amidst all the component and build delays, but currently the exclusive upholstery shop is closed, I believe due to German covid employee restrictions. Hoping by time I need to confirm spec it reopens

Will you still be keeping the RS3 after the RS6 inbound?

Yes, as you say features & commentary so far sounds good. Will be interesting to see how the first full comprehensive reviews go.

Not sure if I will at this stage, took so much time and effort to get the dwna 8v to sound and drive right, kinda cbb doing it all again for what is essentially the same car. If all the existing 8v parts fit and the ecu is just another revision file of what is in 8v, that may make decision easier

Plus I’ll have my hands full soon opf deleting and tuning the rs6 to get that to sound right

nice one! What colours are you (hoping) to get?

Going to be replicating my rs3 - Merlin on lunar silver

I kept going back n forth over doing a green on tan build, but I keep coming back to it being the second best colour compared to merlin - rs3 will be going up for sale when rs6 arrives as I have a spec in mind I want to do an 8Y rs3 sb in that I’m just not brave enough to do on a 300k wagon

I’ll do the lunar silver leather retrim locally if by then the kiddo doesn’t convince me black is less stressful

Hey all, been a while, hope the lockdowns aren't driving everyone insane.

@Domino can't wait to see the RS6 in Purple :) the 2022 RS3 looks nice for sure, not sure re: interior though.

Wanted to ask anyone here whom has turfed the OE rims for replacements - did you stick with 8.5 front and 8 back staggered? I am keen to go new rims (all black) and jump to the PS4S 245 square. Anyone got a brand/recommendation for rims or tips and things to be aware of? Thanks very much!!

I went with 8.5” rims all round when I went the 245 square setup. No issues at all.

Just make sure you get hub rings for our 57.1 hubs. Many third party rims are 66.6” hubs so need a ring to make them fit nice and tight on the car’s hub.

I went cheap reps from WheelDealer as it’s cheaper to replace a wheel than repair it when curbing them. No issues with them at all, and I’ve really pushed them.

How is the tune and sound Ramonster!?

Yep loving it. Start up / cold its pretty wastegatey and average sounding but I'm over that. There's a bit of a ticky sound from bonnet on acceleration (wastegate?) until its warm and in dynamic sports. Once its warm and in dynamic sports though - pure dream! Everyone comments when they hear it, loud with awesome burble and shotgun effects, but not stupidly so. It's pretty much GOD MODE in dynamic sport once you're up to temp, I generally deny myself sports mode until 70c to look after things.

If I could change anything about the tune I'd prefer to have a little bit more zip on drive/comfort modes, its super economical (better than stock) but barely hits 2k RPM before upshift and hits gear 7 at pretty moderate speed, feels like no go at all, but that's much like stock anyway.

This car is a completely different beast from stock to stage 2 with OPF removed, if anyone is having doubts on whether to make the jump, just do it... its like a new car.

It's clear though, if you want to show someone how good it sounds you won't be turning it on from cold.
