A3 transmission fault.

My first post so please forgive any indiscretions.
My 2009 A3 has developed a fault where there is no power through the transmission. There has been no noise whatsoever and has performed great until now. My mechanic says the transmission needs to be replaced but is there anything else I can do? A couple of times the car started and drove after a day or two with no noise then will abruptly lose power. Motor is excellent and I really don't want scrap the vehicle as it drives so well (when able to!). Just jumped into the car then and put in reverse and it drove 10 meters and then it lost power to the tranny and I could not go forward or back. Any assistance greatly appreciated. When put into Drive the gearbox will then lock until the yellow button under the gear lever panel is pushed in. Code may be EPC but then it disappears. Motor light is on as well as traction control.

it probably needs a proper scan to check the exact errors.

Could be a megatronics error, rather than physical error

megatronics is the 'hardware/software' that the gearbox uses to talk to the 'main' car computer.

From the good old internet:

The Megatronics unit is a physical device which combines both the hydraulic control and the computer brain (Transmission Control Module or TCM) in one single housing. There is no separate computer unit elsewhere for the gearbox; the mechatronics unit handles all electronic shifting logic and hydraulic pressure.

It is indeed a megatronics issue!!! $3800 to repair with new accumulator as well. Time to send to the wreckers. Great interior and perfect motor. Damn.

I've heard that a megatronics problem can be terminal, & I know very little about the issue, but as the rest of the car is so good, is there not a possibility that a s/h unit could be sourced?

m e c h a t r o n i c s (it's not a transformer Megatron....)

There are various re-manufactured units available around the place. I've seen them around for ~ $1500 plus fitting so there's a bit of hope (DQ250)

I would first contact a few companies who repair these fir a quote. A quick google search mentioned 3 in Sydney.
