A4 B9 Adblue tank/pump issue !

I recently had the adblue light & warning message on my 2016 A4 B9 diesel quattro come on, "1000 km to go and engine will not restart". It's happened a few times before and it normally means it just needs to get topped up. This however wasn't the case and I got it diagnosed at Audi Parramatta. They reset the unit but said that it likely to need replacing .... at a cost of $7,400 !! The message cleared, but came on again a couple of days later.
Apparently they can't be repaired and the tank and pump come as one unit. I couldn't believe this, but Audi have no interest in anything other than replacing the combined unit.
Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives to replacing the unit?

I'm not sure, but interesting read here..

you can also look to 'tune out' adblue requirement..

just do a google search and a bit of research/call providers to discuss benefits etc.

Thanks jnrdavo, yes I did read that article. The OS prices they mention are still expensive, but much lower than what I've been quoted.
A non-dealer mechanic in Haberfield quoted me a similar price, as the part is the major cost and can only come from Audi.
I have also investigated ASV Euro Car Parts as they can provide a used unit at about 20% of the cost of new, with a 3 month warranty.
I will ask my mate's VAG specialist about a "tune out" of the adblue requirement.
Thanks

no sure where you are, but also give rhe guys au European Autotech a call, they know the Audi's very well..

That sounds absolutely ridiculous. There must be a way of replacing or reconditioning the pump - definitely worth having a chat to a reputable Euro specialist service centre - as jnrdavo suggested it could be worth reaching out to European Autotech in the first instance.
