B8 S4 - Potential Purchase

Matt-Matt

B5 Enthusiast
Potentially looking at a B8 S4 in the near future.. Going to wait and see if I can get a good deal as I'm in no rush. Potentially something with some majority visual damage that's cheap and just sit around til some parts come available. But who knows what'll come up?

What do I look out for? I'm ideally looking at a manual (unlikely to happen) and a face-lift model (just looking at all the early model issues online) and knowing that the majority of those are fixed like the plastic water pump, the failing thermostat and other various issues. That and assumably any car that has been driven (looking at earlier face-lifts) would have had most of these fixed anyway one would assume/check (hence why I am posting this thread).

In terms of panels, it seems that the front quarter panels are the same as the B8 A4.

Additionally; Has anyone had any experience owning one of these here? Any pros/cons and tips/suggestions?

Audi Australia didn't import the manual B8 S4.

There might be a handful of B8/B8.5 S4s in the country in manual (I vaguely recall seeing a private import B8 S4 for sale in Canberra a couple of years ago, may have even been an Avant) but the chances of finding a written off / accident damaged manual any time soon will be slim.

Good luck with the hunt in any event!

I know that they weren't imported, it's kind of a joke in my eyes..

Yeah, likely going to go auto I guess. Benefit is that it'll be faster anyway.

There was one for sale recently in QLD that was manual as well. Am assuming that there's likely less then 10 in the country.

If you are looking for the S4 best to look for a b8.5 as the DSG in the 2010 -> 2012 models have a high failure rate.

I have a 2010 model with 90k and the dsg needed the mechatronics board and gear sensor replaced at a pretty penny.

Ahh yes, thanks for the heads up!

Any cars that I am looking at in my price range would be in the 120k+ range which does not bother me as it just shows that it's a tested car.
