Canberra Cotter Cruising 25th Oct Sunday

Would have loved to come along, but will be returning from Sydney, then a lunchtime picnic at the Binalong Motor Museum (all welcome - bring your own lunch!) followed by polo out near Moppity (spectator only, alas) :crutches:

Sorry I didn't pick this up b4

Actually - I haven't looked at the Clubs forum for a long time. I used to oganise things for the ACT area when I lived in Canberra but it was always difficult getting a quorum together. Nonetheless, we had one or two really excellent weekends including one to Rutherglen :drinks:

This is indeed the Rutherglen weekend Tony. That's me at the end of the table and I assume you are behind the camera. I recognise all the faces but can't put names to them all. That's Marilyn to my left and her American (Canadian?) husband next to her. Neil Trama next to him and his wife. The members I knew best are opposite the Tramas but now I've completely forgotten their names, no hang on - her name was Terri and she was also American although he was Aussie. He had a black TT which he let me drive for a while.

It was a great weekend if the quantity of alcohol we sank be the judge. I remember I was feeling a touch shabby the next morning. This was the heyday of the small and exclusive ACT chapter, after which it sort of fell apart. This would have been early to mid-2000s? After a long period of inactivity I tried to get things going again but didn't get much response. I remember we met at least once in the Belgian Beer Cafe in Kingston, but i don't think we went on any more runs. Neil attended once or twice, as well as a few new members.

There was a bit of a sprint out Tidbinbilla way during one of the OktoberFest weekends but i can't remember who organised it. I definitely wasn't responsible for some of the speeds reached that day.

You still have your A4?

That was 2002. We actually had a pretty full year or two around then with Rutherglen, Mollymook, Captains Flat plus the regular meetings and so on. Good recollection, right names to faces. From memory we hit it pretty hard on a few of those trips. Once the chapter died we headed off O/S so missed the resurrection. A pretty exclusive club with our resident cross gender member and just about a touch of everything exotic. Pretty much everything seemed to happen at warp speed, perhaps the electronic surveillance was less sophisticated way back then.

Yes, still have the same A4 (with a miserly 128,000 Km up) plus an RS4 and allroad just to keep it in the family. Let me know when you are passing through and we can catch a coffee when you are free. Not much I can't reorganize to fit in with the working man.

If you have an RS4 it's only natural you wouldn't spend much time in the A4... I bought the allroad as I couldn't find an S4 Avant at the right price, then found the fuel consumption for a commuter covering 1000 km per week was way too high. It also had strange suspension which I couldn't get my head around. The more you lowered it, the softer and bouncier it became. I considered replacing the airbags with coilovers but that destroys the essential nature of the car. Anyway, after a bit I discovered the cause of the A4's erratic behaviour and sold the allroad.

So back to full time commuting with the A4, now churning out about 240 kW which is great for getting past the B Doubles on the twisty bits, yet settles down to give an overall consumption of around 8 litres/100 km or 35 mpg in the old money. It really is the perfect commuter and now has around 360,000 km up. The only original (factory) components that have thrown in the towel during my ownership have been the alternator and the fuel pump, which is a pretty good record. The after-market stuff has been a different story but you take your chances with that stuff.

Let me know where you live and I'll drop by some time.

I still reckon the A4 is hugely under rated. The GP model with the 132 Kw is a great blaster and handles very well off the floor with the uprated suspension. Only cost me one water temp sensor in 14 years. Definitely not a traffic light drag car but great mid range over taking. Getting 9.5 - 10.5 on the highway with the allroad and less than 13 around town so it isn't that much more than the A4 and as good as the Land Rover. Pretty happy with that. Just did a trip to Melbourne with the RS for the Motorclassica, down via Merimbula and back via Rutherglen (again). Now, that was enjoyable.

Also, PM sent.

I would be interested in attending to talk about old times I guess.
The problem is that we don't have an Audi any more. Just a VW R36, BMW 328i M Sport and a Lotus Excel.

There is coffee at the Pork Barrel on Sunday for a catchup. Have hardly seen you since the Rutherglen weekend all those years ago. Not sure it matters much what you drive.
