Mag ride recalibration

For those of you who have lowered your cars equipped with magnetic ride, did you get the mag ride recalibration done?
I've heard this is a must when lowering but when I enquired about this with Audi centre Melbourne, they said it didn't need it but did require the headlights to be reset.

If you have had your suspension recoded, I would appreciate if you can advice which dealership in Melbourne carried out the work.

Thank you

There is no need to carry out any sort of recalibration with mag ride cars if you change the springs. The dealer is correct.
That rumour about having to do so is the same sort of nonsense floating around as those who say you have to recalibrate the forward facing radar if you change the front grill. Its just not true (I know - Ive done it).

If you are worried about the mag ride either don't change springs, or.. you can hook up an OBD11 and reset it, but it wont make any difference unless your car is throwing mag ride errors prior to a spring change.

If I was changing anything on the suspension, I would get a wheel alignment done however..

Update: So I finally got the mag ride calibrated today. It was a relatively straight forward process where the Audi technician reset the new reference point on the mag ride due to my car being lowered. Having read reviews from others who have had this done on their lowered mag rides, it requires more kilometres to be clocked before the suspension takes full effect. All of them had positive reviews on the outcome.
I’ve only just driven the car back to my office. Happy to report back in a few days on how the mag ride feels synced to the new ride height.

Audi aren't doing anything special. They have just reset the mag ride via the OBD port. You can do this yourself with an OBD11 - takes less than 5 minutes. It 'might' make a difference, it depends on a lot of factors including what spring rates you changed too as well as what sort of roads and how you drive the car. Don't believe though that Audi are doing any wizardry.. they aren't.

$200.00

I believe this can only be done via Odis.

I'm a member of RS3 owners club in UK and there are half a dozen members whom have completed this task and all recommend it.

i reached out to Alex (VagCarCoding) and he replied with the following information.

  • The re-calibation process is only possible via the official VW Group service tool.
  • Remote working requires that the far-end (yourself) connects to the car with a Windows 7 PC or virtual machine and a VW Group supported interface, which I have available to rent or purchase.
  • The official VW Service tool will need to be downloaded and installed. The approx size of the installation is 20GB and I can supply genuine download links. The install can only be completed once I have generated a genuine licence which is locked to your PC’s hardware ID.
  • Once all has been installed I will control any sessions via Team Viewer while in communication with you via WhatsApp or facebook messenger.
  • A stable internet connection is needed in order to facilitate remote working.
Please note: The official VW service tool has its security held within the assigned user ID’s and secure passwords, unlike other applications, example VCDS, where the security is within the cable. Once installed you will NOT be able to use the official service tool yourself and all levels of password access change every 60 seconds.

I have the following options around the needed Interface:

  • Purchase - I can supply an interface for £100.00 + any shipping costs. This option will allow continued works should you need them.
  • Rent - Flat rate of £40.00. I can post an interface out to you for a deposit of £100.00 + any shipping costs. Once the interface has been returned I will refund £60.00.
For the Magnetic Ride Re-calibration procedure I ask £65.00 in total. This includes both pre and post diagnostic protocols and a full headlight re-calibration also.

Did you get yours done? Mine rides nicely on the MSS kit apart from larger holes on dynamic where it hits the bumpstops.

I'm afraid of taking my car to Audi and have them see all my mods :rofl1:

Car rides beautifully - I'm just stuck in the bright lights of everyone else's opinion that a mag ride re-calibration is better again!

And the same reason I'm investigating a remote procedure from someone from the UK hahahaha!

I'm thinking of getting some MSS springs on my RS3 FL, Would you mind helping me out with this recalibration of the mag ride when the time comes Nath?

I'm located in Edithvale.

It might be awhile as i'm holding off mods so i can use my warranty to fix the exhaust rattle :(

Only had the car for 3 weeks

Hey, im located around the corner from you ;)

I haven't had mine completed yet, it all got to difficult with the bloke in the UK due to Xmas/Holidays.. I actually forgot about it!

I would recommend getting the warranty claims completed before modifying so Audi have no excuses!

Hi Nath,

Yes, I want the famous exhaust rattle fixed haha.

We should have a meet if you're close sometime on the weekend.

So can this be done via OBDeleven?
Nah mate, requires Odis s/w which I believe is only available at the Audi service centre.

In saying that there is a guy on audirs3oc who has performed a whole heap of this for local members.
