My A8 4.2 Quattro Sport

An update;

The car is going really well since its service,

I have fitted the only missing part of the 'Extended Aluminium Package'

I have replaced the comfort computer to enable the rain/light sensor to accept the coding it needed so that is properly functional now.

The next thing I require is a reverse camera. I have found that the rear panel holding the number plate lamps is solid aluminium and therefore cutting, drilling or anything like that is not going to happen. The camera module and factory camera is about $1200.
Stupid cash.

So I have found an MMI video interface box and a camera that will enable the camera feed to be shown on the screen if the car is put into reverse. Should all be fitted for about $350 hopefully...

After 4 years without, I have added a reverse camera to the A8. While it has sonar front and rear, the camera is handy.
An OEM camera is about $2k installed as the parts it requires are hugely expensive and designed to work with the fibre optic wiring the MMI uses.
I got around this using an MMI interface box that sits between the screen video feed plug and the MMI control head ECU. When reverse is selected, the module cuts the feed from the control head and sends the camera image up.
Fraction of the cost and I can use an aftermarket camera.

Also, the wiring in this car and the build quality of all the stuff is to an incredible standard! It made the job more than 30 mins work, but it was nice to see some real thought and neatness to the build.

nice job mate. Yeah, it's great to see when the cables are nicely wrapped and loomed and secured to the structure..

Oh, I should explain that the interface box I bought, came with a remote, has 3 RCA video inputs, and can be set to click over to the menu using the "net" button depending on how it is wired.

It will work with any MMI 2G High system. Total cost including the camera was $204. No drilling for the camera.

Extended Leather console fitted. Awful job. But I am very impressed with the build quality of the car in the bits you can't see.
I just need the aluminium rear vent part to finish the alum interior pack. And I am considering heated seats for the rear Just for the hell of it.

I also had all the wheels refinished at vast vast expense :( But one had a tiny crack so it needed a mend. New tyres for the front also will keep the beast rolling along.

I have ordered special tools and the spigot for the notorious 4.2 oil cooler leak to fix it myself.

Wheels look good mike.
I just purchased the AMI interface to replace the stacker hopefully get some tunes playing in it soon. Pick it up for $450.00 AU which is not a bad price considering how rare they are and beats genuine price of $980.00 plus gst with out cable for I phone. Keep us posted on the cooler replacement anything you need give me a buzz. Also leather trim looks great
