RS3 squeaky brakes

Took mine back for a third time this week. Left it at dealer for 3 days and didn't squeal once! They've been very helpful but this is becoming increasingly frustrating!
That's sucks.
One of the guys on here cracked the sh**s and had new discs and pads installed because he made a lot of noise. On the other hand you have us working patiently with them in resolving this annoying issue. I had my car taken in on 5-6 occasions 👎

After all it's like a $50 part .. lol. What a joke!!
Ask Audi to give you the app so you can record it yourself or ask them for their iPad and you can keep it for a couple of days and record the sound yourself.

Just as an FYI, dealerships in the UK are installing dampers as part of the TPI. None of this frequency recording stuff.

I can only imagine the procedure undertaken by the Audi techs trying to replicate the noise on your car. They would be getting heat into them like they are bedding in brakes. Get ready for new pads soon my friend 😁

Thanks mate - I hope you're right! Didn't realise it was just $50 - it's easily cost me bucket loads more than that in time to-date

Wifey is a member of the RS3 Life Oz (Facebook) where a member has said thst he's had what He calls "V2 Brake dampers" fitted, which have completely eradicated his brake noise,......anybody else familiar with these "V2" items
Pickles.

Why?? They know the issue, just need to do the mod...cant you just go another service dealer or contact Audi Australia as they are the ones that cover the costs...

Dealer in West Melbourne knew exactly the issue. No fuss, really helpful, it took 2 visits to replicate the squealing due to them being "warm" on the first go and not making the noise. Technician came out with his phone and app and recorded the squeal and it's frequency which they send off and the right damper is then selected and fitted (in a week). Will see if it resolves the issue but saves having to hard brake a few times to get rid of the noise every morning!

OK - so cars had these magic weights/dampers fitted and no more squeal (so far, despite it being 5C outside). Will test more.

Negatives...some "helpful" technician has topped up my oil. Above the maximum line of the dipstick. FFS. Just spotted it today having driven it for nearly a week...odds of Catalyst damage?

It's above the maximum line on the dip stick and about level with the very top of where the plastic marker piece meets the metal (and yes I have wiped and redipped about 10 times, cars been warmed and then sat for about an hour or so).

Had mine replaced (4,000kms) a couple of weeks ago and after a short drive down Great Ocean Road over the w/e I'm now at 6,000kms with no squealing, yet...

My dealer understands i want to tune the car.. I asked about the TD1 code and he insists the brakes are apart of the drive-train package and I wouldn't be able to get them 'fixed again' if i did tune the ecu... I don't believe this 110% but sense there is a miss communication with the dealer rather than him trying to deceive me as they have been helpful with everything else (Suspension control module replacement, front wipers, rear suspension cradle and squealing brakes - all within 8 weeks / 4000kms of ownership!)

I follow the UK forums as well and there is currently adispute lodged by a forum member with Audi UK. Warranty on his brakes are voiddue to his car being tuned. His brakes are warped and Audi won’t replace themeven though his car is only 1 year old. So what your dealer is stating thereholds some merit.

I can only assume that Audi will have to demonstrate thatthe tune directly caused the associated component to fail which will be veryhard to prove. It’s a messy process.

But glad to hear the caliper dampers have solved your noisybrakes.

I think the brakes form a part of the drive train due to them "braking" the inside wheel as a form of faux-LSD. More power would likely mean progressively faster wear in that case. The dealer would have to prove it though...long and arduous process for something which is replaceable for a few $K with an aftermarket improved kit.

The dampers are so far proving to work and silent and actually surprisingly good brakes now I can stop wincing at every stop! I've fallen back in love with the car!

The same happened to me with my Golf at the local VW dealership. The manual clearly states and shows the acceptable range on the dipstick. When I challenged the technician's boss, I was told to stop wasting their time. I never went there again.

So Matt, what precisely has your Dealer done to your brakes. I would like to know specifically, so I can repeat same to my Dealer when I speak to him about the issue.
Thank You, Pickles.

I went in and spoke to the very helpful Karen at the Audi Centre (Zagami) in West Melbourne about the squeal which helpfully announced itself loudly as I pulled into the service area. They sent me out with a technician who had an iPad to record the squeal and it's frequency. First trip to record it and the car failed to squeal again with the guy beside me.

I returned weeks later (when I had time) and went out again, this time the technician had the app on his phone and wound the window down and recorded the squeal.

He recorded the frequency, took a bunch of photos of the callipers and pads and took my vin. Car had done just under 11K Kms at that point.

They pre-booked a second appointment to fit the "weights" a week later. I took the car in, they fitted them and car has not squealed since.

Very happy with the service and they checked my oil again for me after my concern over it being overfie and said it's fine and within tolerances. If it was overfilled the trip computer would have a warning apparently?

Honestly, the weights feel like a bit of an engineering "fudge" but the brakes work really well on the road and as long as they are quiet I don't care how they achieve that. I actually think anti squeal shims would be identical in the outcome and cheaper but hey-ho.

Edit: TPI REF is 2045685/4

Thanks for that, It is becoming annoying, so now I'll have something to go on.

Hopefully it's no dramas, Karen knew exactly the problem and the diagnosis process so it was in and out in no time. As I said, it's actually altered how I drive back to loving the car again!

Im in for a 30K service and the brakes squealing is driving me crazy. Have already replaced rotors and pads at 14k (after a track day).

Can anyone confirm if this dapper fix is working now over last few months ?

Had the RS3 in at the Dealer's last week to replace a damaged front tyre. They used some sort of grease on the front brakes, and the squeal appears to have gone.
I also have a "clunk" in the L.H. front end when reversing right hand down from a driveway onto the road etc, which I could not replicate for the dealer?
Pickles.

Just an update for anyone interested. Did the 30K service. "Cleaned" braked pads and rotors and applied some specific grease (?), refused to entertain any conversation about upgrades or dampers. Pretty much response is I'm only one having the issue, must be that track day you did a year ago.. *** me..!!! Anyway, squeal went away for a couple of weeks, now back again. Goes without saying but not upgrading to facelift. Audi Brisbane (Fortitude valley) btw are useless when it comes to wanting to solve niggling issues. This issue after the original stuff around when i got the car is enough for me to vote with my wallet and do business elsewhere.

Im considering a RS4 but will go to another dealer out of town.

And fair enough.
We still have the issue also, they put on the grease or whatever, & like you, for two weeks it was OK, but then it came back. Not good enough. Our dealer has been pretty good, but we'll be looking to them to get a fix for this. Track Day?..that is simply rubbish.
Let us know how you progress, we'll be speaking to our dealer in the next few weeks as a service becomes due.
Regards, Pickles.

PICKLES! I am glad you said this. I was reversing one night into a car spot (parallel). Then I heard this loud CLUNK!. First thing that came to mind was I have guttered the RIM/WHEEL.

Got out to inspect. No damage. Scratched my head and wondered wtf had gone on.

Now on a weekly basis I hear a CLUNK noise coming from one side of the car. Its quite disconcerting.

Is the noise coming from the rear or front (like pickles noted)? Ive mentioned in another thread about a clunking noise coming from the
rear of my car. My haldex pump failed a little while ago and the noise went away. Once the pump was replaced the noise started again.
It is becoming much more frequent too as it only used to occur after long periods of being stationary (ie first thing in the morning).
