RS3 squeaky brakes

Sorry to revive an old thread!

2016 RS3 with approx 16,500km.

Brakes are squealing loud AF from time to time coming to a crawling stop. To the point where people look at me or cover their ears.

Called Audi Richmond and apparently will get charged to my own pocket for a Brake Diagnostics Test and not covered under warranty?!

I'm based in Victoria - South East Suburbs but willing to travel to a dealer who is on top of this and won't screw around.

Can people recommend a dealer and who I can talk to?

Cheers!

Hello,

I bought an RS3 last week and noticed squeaky brakes at low speeds. Coming to a dead stop is when they are noisy.
the car only has about 100km on the clock.

Has anyone else experienced this on their 8v. I know it was an issue on the 8p.
i can try bedding in the brakes and see if that makes a difference.

Interested to hear from you if this was something you have encountered.

Thanks.
This is a known, and very common issue.
There is no way you should be charged.
Whichever dealer is servicing your car should be able to look after you......who HAS been servicing your car?
Pickles.

Hey Pickles, I'm guessing you were supposed to quote my comment!

I just purchased the car last week through private sale, its one and only service was through Doncaster Audi.

I called the landline for what I thought was two different dealers but it all goes through one call line apparently. The same guy picked up twice.

Car has warranty and free servicing until end of 2019 so I too, don't see why I need to pay anything at all.

Mine squealed terribly from new. Disks and pads were all replaced with OEM by the dealer in May 2017 when I collected my demo with 1700km on it.

Once bedded, three or four heavy stops from quickish speeds in a safe place solved it for good. 5000km up now and they are fine even in slow stop/start stuff. No noise...

Doncaster should have the service records for your car & should look after you.
You could try getting on to a freeway & try doing 10 stops in quick succession, HARD braking from 100kph to 5kph,...BUT DO NOT STOP,..see what that does.
Apart from that, the dealer can apply "grease" which 90% fixed the issue for us.

Did you or anyone have to go through the brake diagnostics test and pay that out of your pocket? They were saying how it cost $220? Per hour and the test would be 20mins and will only be charged for the 20mins.

I called Brighton Audi and Richmond and I spoke to the same guy. Might give the contact card in my service book a call instead to get around it. After reading numerous threads, I heard it's either grease or a dampener to fix the issue?

Could give it ago but I think with 16,500km it'd be almost safe to say the braking bits would be well covered. Did some hard braking myself when I took ownership but wasn't any good after.

teflon shims used to fix the squeaks on my alfa brembos with carbon mertallics or DS2500 pads, no amount of bedding in or copper grease would.

They are high temp adhesive backed teflon, which are applied to the back of the pad then you cut around the pad to shape and insert into the carrier on the caliper. Most specialty brake shops will have them.

We didn't go through any "diagnostic test" because the "grease" nearly fixed the issue. The diagnostic test involves getting the squeal to happen, then recording it,..we were told that the recording then got sent to Audi Germany who would then determine what dampers to use.
Luckily we haven't needed to do that, but at NO stage was there any mention of a charge, because it is a known, under warranty, issue.

gbernard, you hanging around here now!? Looks like we moved to the same place! How’s the car going? I haven’t posted on Ausalda for a while now!

Hey buddy, i thought it was you !!, yep bought a new S3 almost 3 yrs ago, very happy with it.

Don't love it the way I did my alfa's but extremeley competent car and great ownership experience as well, and the dealer support has been great, would definitely buy another one.

A lot of the Ausalfa melb guys have parted ways with their cars, and now drive M3's A45's and Audis, a couple are flirting with the idea of a Guilia QV at the moment as well.

Thinking of a new RS3 for myself in the next year or so when the new platform is released, but they didn't have an RS3 for sale it when i ordered mine in Feb 2015, delivered May 2015 and I couldn't wait.

I’ve been here a while too. I was contemplating a Giulia Q.V. as well but don’t have a 2 car garage.
I absolutely love the Giulia.

Called Audi Doncaster (car was purchased from here previously and first service) to query about the brake squeal and the service attendant still quoted me an hourly price of close to $200 and wants to keep the car for half a day if i were to book for diagnostics. Pre-caution quote in case the Brake squeal is not warranted. If warranted, cost is waived. Did everyone else go through the same? I also mentioned a TPI/case raised for this.

Will try calling Audi West Melbourne and speak to Karen as per everyone's great comments about her customer service.

Booked my car in with Audi Center Melbourne to have my squeaky brakes assessed. Will be leaving my car there overnight and taking home a loan car but to be honest.. I am a bit freaked out about leaving my car there due to the whole joy ride incident that's happening at some dealers these days.

Told them it occurs often within the first 5-10 minutes, so they want to keep it overnight to let it cool and do the test, measure the brakes, noise frequency test and fit dampers.

What's everyone's experience? Should i be worried?

Do you have a dashcam? this may help deter them from joy rides, tyre smoking etc....

Interesting times - happy to leave children in the hands of 'qualified' day carers and teachers at school but freak out over leaving your car overnight with a dealer............

Totally different situation, can't see how one equals the other in this case. Obvious that the law makes provision for the protection of Children and report an issue, Police get involved. Rightfully so.

This problem with mechanics joy riding isn't new. Hard if not impossible to prove, police won't even want to know unless there is an accident or a serious breach of road rules. On the occasions that it does occur it's generally wannabees who can't afford a decent ride themselves so they thrash some one elses. I personally don't think it's common but I have seen it happen. This is where you choose a mechanic that you can trust and become a regular. Goes a long way to having your car looked after.

Dash cam and GPS tracker are your best protections where you can at least hand the evidence over to a solicitor if you feel that you have a case.

The post (tongue in cheek) was about folks' values these days - no further explanation required.
However, it can be dead easy to wipe a dash cam memory.
Also check odometer and average consumption numbers.
My ultimate experience (pre-Audi) was seeing my car flash past me at a ridiculous speed on the back roads whilst cycling back from work to the dealership.
A small discussion followed upon return and administrative action was against the individual concerned.
A sad outcome for him but a salient lesson to him and others - the sort of regulatory governance sorely missing from the Banking sector.

Can the forum please advise the part numbers for the front callipers and pads for a 2017 RSQ3 Performance - Brembo callipers?
Just about to purchase a set of EBC Red Stuff overseas (UK) and have been asked for confirmation.

Tx

Now have rotor and pad part numbers for the legendary EBC Red Stuff pads and EBC Direct in the UK can supply a full set of front pads for the RS3/RSQ3 Performance for GBP 194.

Brakes have been fitted with dampers, impeccable improvement with the squealing and seems to grab more.
I had recordings on my phone of the squeal which they were able to utilize due to being unable to get my car to squeal.
In saying that, have had 4 occasions so far with squealing on reverse. Will drive it a bit longer and hope that it all beds-in and goes away!
