Smash repair times & Insurance lessons

To state the bleeding obvious... Whatever you do, Don't get hit.

6th Feb, The C7 allroad was front car in a 3 car rear-ender. Drivable afterwards with bent exhaust, dinged up tailgate and bumper. (the poor A4 behind would have been a write-off)

It took 3 weeks before the insurance company could assess the car, as they were "too busy". Moved the date back twice, yet didn't bother to tell me they had. Totally incompetent, zero customer service from the insurance co.

It's taken another 4 weeks for the parts to come in. Not sure why, and can't imagine why Audi don't have sufficient commonly damaged parts in stock???

If the insurance company had any common sense (quote / approve / order parts / wait for arrival before taking my car off the road), then it would have saved about $2500 in car rental costs...

I'm now waiting 2 more weeks to repair / paint / assemble.

No doubt we all pay for insurance company dumb processes, slow audi part availability, when we pay for insurance in the first place.... sigh

Lessons learnt:

Don't ever insure your car with GI0. I used their Platinum insurance to get new vehicle replacement in the event of a total loss, but it's not worth the pain of dealing with them. Check out the complaints on their Facebook page to realise they are consistently bad. Whenever you have to speak to them, be prepared to spend 40+ minutes on hold beforehand. I have had to do this 4 times so far.

GI0 Platinum "a similar make or model to your car" rental car provisions while repair are a lie. Best I could get was a Camry or Commodore, despite GI0's rental car partner (Hertz) offering A4 / Q5 / Q7's. Ended up renting a Q5 on my own dime that they will re-imburse me for. (Huh? This makes no sense) Waiting for the fight for my money at the end of this...

GI0 choice of repairer is reluctant at best. GI0 didn't like the quote, so wanted to move the car from an Audi approved repairer to a non-Audi approved one. When I told them I was happy for them to take the car to another Audi approved place, I was told that they wouldn't do that, as they too would be expensive. Then I was offered a cash settlement (Nope, you fix it). After 2 days of brinkmanship and arguments between the assessor, the repairer and me, they backed down. The assessor basically told me that Audi-approved repairers are more expensive, and will always have a fight over repair price when it's an audi approved repairer. The amount in question was less than the rental car cost while waiting for parts....

After 2000k in a poverty-pack Q5, I want my A6 back !!

Wow Cameron, this is absolutely shocking but you're right, there are so many cases like this in Aus.

Really appreciate the heads up on GIO, all the best..
