On the way home one night, in front of me was a highway patrol car pulling out of a carpark driveway. They held back and waited for me to past where they then tailgated me closely. It was obvious that I knew that they were cops and weren't trying to make me go faster but they used me as cover to catch people going in the other direction. Which they did and freak me out because of them on my butt for a few minutes and suddenly the lights coming on. But they just slammed on the breaks and spun the car around and got a guy in a ute.
Is it illegal to disengage the cruise control and glide down (no brake lights) to a "safe and legal speed" (ie 20km slower than the limit) when they do that to you? Coz that's what I do.. seems to annoy the crap out of em.
I have heard that on the GC they have a silver/gunmetal grey previous model VW GTI golf as an unmarked car, and the police persons were casual clothes, and are waiting for speedsters. Also that the motorbike police like to hide behind trees at night and chase speedsters...wheres the back roads fun of the old days gone?
Not sure about illegal. Free wheeling is dodgy ground i guess, like you can fail your driving test as you are not in full control of the car etc. Or failing to make progress for no reason, Sure if they really wanted to they would find something !!
Maybe they just annoyed as it would take them longer to get home at end of shift time or to servo for free coffee and biscuits !

free wheeling isnt illegal is it?? , otherwise every manual driver whould be fined between gear shifts. i frequently free wheel down hills...as far as being in control..well my brakes still work.

Seriously? That seems insane to me, I didn't realise this kind of behaviour and things like tailgating to get people to speed up went on.They tried to get me to race on the M1 and hit like 200km in doing so.

Surely they can't drive dangerously just to entrap people. Someone needs to take them to court when this kind of **** happens.
