Sneaky sneaky police

In context with the thread title, some more information.
There is an expensive array of cameras placed on the northern side of the Logan bridge/overpass (just past the Logan Motorway turn off) as you head north. Note how they have mounted them on the northern side of the bridge to deliberately try to 'hide' the cameras. As I say sneaky sneaky police..

Is that in the 80 Km/Hr construction zone?? Heaps of people pass me there and it would be a huge cash cow for them.. Are you sure that is a speed camera system? Is there any chance it is one of those heavy vehicle systems that photographs the number plate and checks how long the truckie has been on the road?

No, it's in the 100km zone just after you come down the hill and out of the 110km zone. According to the Queensland Transport website, it's for speed.
You can confirm this by looking at the devices on the Logan Motorway toll points you'll see the ones that measure vehicle length are distincly different from these ones. You'll notice they are the exact same as the ones that are fixed cameras only mounted in a slightly different housing. Plus if they were for that they wouldn't be hidden they would be on the facing side.

*Also be advised of speed detection devices on the toll points of Go-Via's infrastructure. They always have measured speed however by June 2011 they will be linked to the police's photo infringment LAN/WAN and motorists will be issued offence notices based on this data.
This will also include timed point to point data showing average speed in certain locations...

All of this when the national revenue for speed offences now exceeds a $Billion per year and yet the road toll is still higher than the last years in nearly every state.

Funny how they say "Speed Kills"...
Germany has been increasing speed limits over the last 2 decades including roads with no limits and yet their road toll drops every year!

Did you mean to say 'decreasing' or 'increasing'..... If the first one, then that's probably defeats your argument :-)

Is it illegal to disengage the cruise control and glide down (no brake lights) to a "safe and legal speed" (ie 20km slower than the limit) when they do that to you? Coz that's what I do.. seems to annoy the crap out of em.

What do you mean? .. brakes at full lock, didnt you see the animal that ran across the road and scared the hell out of you?

dont know if anyone has seen these yet.. Friend got done the other day by one of these..
Here are some shots of another "Photoshoot Vehicle" outside of Redcliffe Pools on Oxley Ave, Redcliffe.
the roadside vehicle mounted speed cameras can gauge and catch speeding vehicles coming from both directions. Even though the Speed Camera vehicle is parked on
one side of the road.

That car could be pinged for a partially obscured plate.

Also what's to stop a member of the public rocking up and parking a huge bongovan or 4wd right in front of it?

Nothing I guess.

I've been with someone who purposely pulled onto a verge and parked directly in front of a multinova. The guy watching it went nuts but he wasn't a cop so he just ignored him.

after seeing this info about the golf i have seen one golf running around changing the red light camera's, they actually take 90% of the bars away and only leave the bottom part on..

Bummer, my mate just got done in his 748bhp supra by the black GTI the other day, he couldn't keep up though and somehow gave my mate a ticket in his driveway..
The white and black ones are back on the coast..yay..

Have noticed some of the vic police recently sitting on monash freeway on ramps with radars especially in the 80km/h zone after high st inbound.

Yeah ive seen a couple at 6am in the morning, ive seen an unmarked sv6 ute on toorak road and a hyundai i30 in dandenong

vl turbo's

ive been told by fellow friends from holden service department that they have brought back vl turbo's as unmarked cars

Probably cars that have been confiscated via the 'anti-hooning' laws. They have an awesome R33 gts that they got from some guy in Brisbane, now being used somewhere in Qld with 700hp that they use to entrap and stir people.

I saw my friend in the burnt orange FG GT falcon (tail gated me from Gold Coast to Brisbane for no reason...wait..there was a reason,...to get me to break the law!) he has a new personalised set of plates the tax payers got for him, to make him even more sneaky..
FPV 357 (not sure on the exact number but it is FPV 3** something)

we should get a list started in each state for possible contractor cars.

I know in Vic ive seen the following

Holden Captiva
Holden Commodore (wagon/sedan/Ute)
Holden Cruze
Mitsubishi Outlander
Ford Territory
Ford Falcon (wagon/sedan/ute)
Subaru liberty
Toyota Corolla (wagan/hatch)
Toyota Camry

that should get the ball rolling, as far as i know they are usually current shape cars, or just out of date (Ba falcons, VZ commodores)

Not really any good considering there are thousands of those types of vehicles on the roads. At very least, if you are going to bother, you need to have colour and if possible number plate.
In Queensland any ute parked on the side of the road with a fibreglass canopy whould be treated with extreme cameramobile2.jpgcaution

Edit: Oops, didn't realise this post was in the QLD section... I'm in Sydney :S
