So I finally got my Scirocco delivered. And took me less than 10 seconds to identify a issue

No splash guard.
Iv been stung with this before getting a blue slip and it’s an instant fail.
Considering its from a dealer and it apparently had a full “service” its a pretty piss poor that this can come from a dealer.

Did my first ever timing belt change on a car over the past couple of days.
S3 8P.... wasn't too bad, but really would be good to have the right tools, let alone the knowledge of how to do it!

Now that I've done it, only major stumbling blocks were getting the engine mount plate off the engine, and then back in again (ok, getting the top timing belt cover back on was also a pain/jigsaw)..

I also stuffed up/broke the belt tensioner, the aluminium part that you turn with an allen key. I got stuck on how to do the tensioner properly (never done one) and must have had the nut bolted up too tight, so then I tried too hard to turn and align it and it broke.

No biggie, got another one same day and had it installed and aligned up properly in 5 minutes.

There are also some very hard bolts to get out of the car, so you have to raise and lower it a few times to get access to them. Trying to torque them up properly is also hard with a 'large' torque wrench, without many different lengths of extension parts, as there are pipes/chassis and other parts always in the way, just where you don't need them.

I was sure I did it all right, so much that I packed away my tools, and then crossed my fingers before turning the engine over the first time. All works, and so far (2nd day), it's still working!

Anyway, pat on the back for me, from me.... I think it's about $1200 at your local independent to do this job, so I saved some $$$ doing it myself.

I was looking at doing mine soon
I thought the CDL engines were easy to work with ?

Im looking at removing the terrible CDL engine cover airbox module and replace it with a stand alone air filter box.
What’s the go with the valve cover though and it’s oil filler point ?
My scirocco has the oil filler extension to compensate for the engine cover. But iv seen a few golfs and sciroccos without it ?
i thought it was removable but apparently VW has two part numbers for these covers ?

You can remove it, pretty sure its just glued, i've seen people remove it but its pretty stuck might come out with some heat. i just changed my cover to a billet one much nicer and cleaner and gets rid of the emission shit

Most people stick with stock, but some do go for a new intake with billet etc when pushing the car a bit..
something like this..
