Suspension fail

Hi,

I'm getting an error code

2646 Plausibility adaptive suspension
IMPLAUSIBLE SIGNAL

Strangely in Auto Mode, no code, but when in Dynamic or Individual modes, the error appears.
I did read somewhere it could be a ride level sensor 304-002 but thought I'd ask the "Brains Trust" before I order one

OK, so it wasn't a level sensor, but a right rear shock giving odd readings through the modes.. Question now, simply replace it or move to coilovers?

depends on what answer you want to hear 😉

cheaper to replace one, but if you want the lowered stance, handling, but additional 'stiffness', then coilovers are the go.

Looks like I'll have to go after market. Audi in Perth say change both, parts only price A$6,700 for 2. Installation still required. they also say they don't install them and sent to a "Professional" Didn't say who..... Deliver on parts 4-6 weeks ex Germany

I'm not familiar with that model but a few questions / comments.
If you go coil overs do you need to do anything electronic to counter the existing diagnostic sensors?
Amazing Audi Perth don't fit their own suspension!!!
Have you tried to google the part numbers and see if something from O/S is cheaper?
Any chance that a "wrecker" has a single damper assembly?

I think I've found the shop Audi uses who can work on the Audi DRC system. Around the corner from Audi. VA Techics. Waiting there response. Haven't searched the P/N yet. In Auto mode, no error code, only in other modes the error appears. In the UK in Nov, so I'm bound to find one there If I don't get a result locally.

Surprised an Audi dealership (particularly one in a major city) doesn't have all the right tools to do the job.

The DRC doesn't have a great reputation for reliability/longevity so if I were you I'd be going down the full aftermarket replacement route.

FWIW I had an 8T RS5 too and had a leaky DRC shock at around the 15k kms mark. The car was under new car warranty so it was all handled by my Audi dealer. Point I'm trying to make is that the DRC parts can fail prematurely and if you were to replace one or two shocks don't expect that you won't have further issues down the track. Given that it is expensive to buy the replacement parts and you're dependant on a limited number of workshops with the required gear to repressurise the system you may be best cutting your losses and retiring the DRC system altogether.

Update. faulty part is 8T05012A right rear. Audi Perth said best buy two at a bargain price of $6,700 for both, 6 weeks delivery from Germany. They don't recharge in their workshop, they send it out. I believe VA Technic locally have the tool to recharge them. Reading other forums, other state of Aust sell them for $1,950 each. I know the dealer is out to make $$$ but seriously!!! I'm in the UK next month, so I'll see what the market is like there.
This is my 2nd Audi. Every time I talk to Audi Perth I feel they are trying to rob me.... If they were more realistic, I'd certainly buy from them. So far, not 1c
