Targa High Country Tour Group

Did a 1600km tour through Snowy River National Park and Kosciuszko the other weekend. What awesome driving roads.

I was wondering if anyone has done any of the Targa Tours such as Targa High Country and what was it like?

I know a lot of the factory Tour groups book out very quickly and are quite costly but I notice you can still register as an individual with the Tour Group.

The early bird entry fee is $1990k which doesn't seem too bad for a 3 day organised event on closed roads.

I know there is a 130kph speed limit but you rarely can get up to 130 around those twisty sections and pretty rare to being able to race up Mount Buller without traffic.

Although if the pace is slow then may as well do a private tour.

Haven't done a tour, but three of us did Tasmania last year. Did west Coast on the first day and central tassie the second day, some of the most amazing roads and easily surpassed the 130km/hr

Tasmania does look like an awesome drive and sure easy to surpass 130 kph in some sections. I believe Targa Tasmania is the most epic of the Targas. Of course there are unlimited speed categories in the Targa events and easy to reach speeds of 180 to 200+ between corners but hard to carry that speed through the majority of corners.

I've been told in the tour groups of the targa if you go over 130kph as long as you go back down you will get away with it but sustaining speeds above is an issue.

Personally for me it is about driving the 15kph to 45kph sign posted corners which apparently is 90% of the stages in the Targas so I don't think the 130kph speed limit will be a problem for most of the course.

Anyway I have entered so now just time to try and get some sponsors for the event.

Let me know if anyone is willing or has any suggestions beyond sponsoring myself. ;-)

he just did Targa (one of them?) a few months ago... in an old BMW and loved it. From memory $7K all up, including transfers, accommodation etc... But I could have that wrong.

He love it so much he's already booked for next year..

One of the guys had previously done tsrga and knew few of the routes. Certain routes you would average 90 km/hr plus and I topped out at 230km/hr.

For tassie you would need to budget around $2000 plus cost getting car ready but it was amazing fun
