Anyone done one of these comment experinces? Are the instructors any good? long or short track? Once I get the whale back into one piece I might look at it. Or would I be better off down AHG/RAC whatever they call themselves now for an advanced drivers course or two first.

The extent of my track experience is just the 'performance driving course' at AHG/RAC.
This is on their skidpan gonly going around various courses set up by witches hats and I wouldn't rate the instruction at these which is pretty minimal and doesnt' really extend past 'slow in - fast out' around corners and some tips on the correct line. More a bit of fun rather than a 'course'. But on the plus side its fairly cheap, its on weekends and as you never get above second gear you wont even wear your tyres and brakes out much.

Probably something between the 'performance driving course' and the Barbagallo day would be the AHG/RAC 'Tuning Arvo' which is on their 1.6km circuit apparently has "an instructor on hand". Unfortunately these are on weekdays so for me it would mean having to take half a day off work.

This Barbagallo one looks pretty good. I might go up for a bit of a look one of the nights.

Its the Long track until it gets dark. Then we use the short track due to lack of lighting.

Its the same track the V8 supercars "use" to use. Long track is about 2km long.

As for whether AHG or barbegello? Barbegello is no so tight as AHG hence a little faster:woah2:.

I have done both tracks and enjoyed barbegello a lot more. 210kmh down the straight into a 90 degree right turn.

otherwise if you just unsure pop on down and spectate for $5 and then if you like sign up for the next one, if you dont you just lost $5. Hopefully you will live.

I've done quiet a few track days at barbs on two wheels. However driving and riding are too different skills and while on the bike I can wander around the long track in about 68 seconds shuffling the other thing around will be a whole different skill. I've done on basic driving course which mainly covered threshold braking but adjusting things mid corner and the like I only have a vague idea.

A little more info:

Circuit Length: Long: 2.41km
Short: 1.76km

Also AHG is technically built for training, motorkhana etc with ocasional speed event...my 2cents.

Was already thinking of going to this.

I've been around Barbagallos a few times my Dad's old XKR, it's great fun.
I also got to go for a ride along for few laps in a F430 racecar while I was there, unbelievable stuff.

The AHG's back straight is actually slightly longer than barbs although the kill joys keep putting chicanes at 1 third intervals. Something about litre bikes been able to top out to 250ish on it made them nervous.

when I bought my GT-P, FPV threw in a day's training at AHG. was a great day out, being taught by John Bowe's brother.

I managed to get mine to do 190 at the end of the straight and I'm sure I could have got a few more but they insisted on us braking early
