Default Newly Acquired 1989 90 Quattro

Bought this over from WA to SA. Many upgrades to come for hillclimbs after countless hours spent watching youtube videos. Great power band from 3500rpm :)

*Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of your car and over steer is when you hit the wall with the rear of your car.
*Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Yes, it looks beautiful. I've been lucky to see a few 20v 90's. They're quite rare in Australia with a total of less than 60 imported. They almost have as much power as the 2.6E V6. You're one lucky man.

Hey, that's my old car! Sad to see it leave WA, but hopefully you'll look after it 😉.

It was one of only 2 cars sold new in WA and started out as the dealer principals own car, before being sold on to a doctor around 1990. He spared no expense and sold it to me in 2000/2001 with 186k on the clock. I overhauled the gearbox and front diff, fitted the extra gauges, red tail lights and clear fronts. Sold it in 2004 with 206k on it to a guy named Bruce. He had it for a year or two and sold out to Bob who you no doubt bought it from. He was the one who painted the calipers yellow 😏

Great car and I still miss it.

    Actually the 2.3 20v has 125kW vs 110kW for the 2.6 V6.

It was a bugger there were hardly any around when I was looking for the I5 engine so I bought it sight unseen and now there's a couple closer to me in Victoria. interior is good, but the paint is pretty stuffed on the roof and the clear is coming off the boot. I don't care too much as the plan it to race it. Engine is about to come out and getting some forged treatment and other bits an pieces from 034 for at least a 300kw starting tune. I'll post some pics soon. Then to cut the wire that unlocks the diff when you go over 20km/h and see what the beast can do.

What sort of mods will give you 300kW?? From what I recall that's a big ask unless you go down the turbo route.

Don't take this the wrong way as it is your car and you are free to do what you want to it, but I will lament the loss of a good, original and rare (in oz at least) car. Done properly though, I'm sure this will make a great racer.

Only reason I say that is the other 90q20v that was sold new in WA was butchered a year or so ago and looked a real sorry state when the owner was trying to sell it.

as soon as he said forge the engine, im sure he means going the turbo route.
I5 engines are best suited for turbo's anyways as the heads dont really flow that much.
So push as much air in as you can, as long as you get a cradle, there wont be a problem in pushing that much power, the blocks are tremendously strong.
if going forged for 300kw id recommend pistons that give you a compression ratio of 9.2:1 or if you run e85 get 9.8:1

Yer, turboing it, was going to put in a 2.2 from the urs4 but people seem to have good results with the 2.3 as well. It would also be easy to get another block if needed. I'm sourcing the intake and exhaust manifolds from 034 and then deciding on what turbo to start with and running a motec to manage it all.
