    Default A1 2012 Gearbox Leaking.

Purchased a new A1 in 2012, had a few issues failing sensors, new injectors etc. Now the DSG is pumping oil out of the breather hole on top of the box, so much now its undrivable. Have been told its the Mechatronic unit which is leaking and pumping its hydraulic oil into the gearbox past a failed seal. Audi have said it needs a new Mech at $3700 plus fitting.

My questions are has anyone had any experience with this problem or know anything about these failures. Has anyone pursued Audi outside warranty to have them replace the Mech and been successful. Has anyone successfully rebuilt or fixed a leak in a mech unit?

    Thanks guys

Does it have full Audi service history?

Have you approached Audi Australia for any 'goodwill' assistance?

Update: Audi Australia have agreed to replace the mechatronics for no cost, as long as we pay some of the labour component. This has been a good outcome considering the car is 18mths out of warranty.

Hi there, I am having the exact same issue. I purchased my Audi A1, 2012 model only 9 months ago (July 2020) second hand from a reputable dealer. Full service history from Audi dealership. I received a letter in the mail only 3 months after purchasing to advise my car had been recalled due to gear box fault in 2012 and 2013 A1 models. I took it to Audi Richmond in December 2020 to which I was told my gear box had already been inspected and rectified so there was nothing they needed to do. Then, 3 weeks after it was serviced by Audi Richmond in March 2021 the warning sign appears on my dashboard advising gear box issue. Yesterday I was told by Audi Richmond that the MECHATRONIC is leaking oil in to the gear box and requires replacing at a cost of $5600 including labour! I am furious!
I have contacted Audi directly as I genuinely can't see how this cost should be mine when I have done everything possible make sure the car I purchased had a full service history and was looked after by Audi dealers and I had no idea of these gear box and Mechatronic issues with this make, model and year.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions and help would be so appreciated. Thank you
