I'm sure you're already all over this Muckman, but make sure you slab is thick enough to support a hoist (not all are).

Yeh Im more then likely going back to a scissor but if I was to go with a two post iv been told I would have to do that after the slab is laid.
Most builders wont accommodate custom slabs.
But I what I might be doing is counter sinking it and installing a built in scissor so that its completely flush.
Post hoists can get in the way and being that im only going up about 1.5 meters, i dont think I need a post.
I do however like the portable scissor units being that you can move and position them anywhere in the garage. But I cant stand using the assist Ramps.
So I think a counter sunk scissor lift is the way to go.
Question is where would I position it

that's nice.. do you just put stands on the lift when you want to take the wheels off?

Like you could put the car on a dolly or something to manoeuvre the car around to use the hoist while working on a car. Could have the hoist central of the garage. I’m hoping I can have it central forward so that I can have one car on the lift while having two parked behind.

Bought these the other day for the gallardo.
Will look good ones painted green.
Also not sure why there is a factory bracket on em considering they supposedly came off a R8??? I know the gallardo is a radial mounted caliper so I have no clue as to what these brackets are made for ?

nice. Maybe there were on another car, but originally off a R8 (or visa versa)..
Is there a difference between the 'normal' callipers and the ceramic, or is it just the pads that are in it (and of course, the discs)?
Only 4 pot, don't you want/need 6 or 8 pot?

Turns out they are from a Q7 ?
And yeh iv always wanted to know what the go is with ceramic calipers.
Far as I know there are no difference.
I thought like the dust boots would be of a different kind being ceramic dust might be a bit more abrasive?
But even the dust boots are the same so it’s the same caliper.
Biggest confusion I have with this caliper is with the R8 and Gallardo use some kinda cross brace, maybe to give it more reinforcement of some kind maybe ? Never under stood why they do this.

Same goes with the front caliper with the 8 pots where you see in the RS3 calipers they have some cylindrical shaped item on the end

To this day iv never gotten an answer as to what the hell that thing is lol

Are you talking about this?

IMG_0132.jpg

If so, I believe it was added to RS3 callipers to resolve an issue with squealing brakes during light brake application when they first got released.

If you dig deep on this forum you will find posts about it.

Yeh I had a sneaky suspicion it had something to do with squealing.
However it was never introduced on the RS5 ?
Must be a set of damping washers or something?
But as for the Q7 yeh its from a Q7 rear. But is has no cross brace found in the R8 and Gallardo setups?
I have a feeling its just a extra form of bracing ?

It’s not on the B7 RS4 caliper either which is the same as RS5 I believe.

I recall something about harmonic frequencies. I believe it was added to try and resolve that issue.

Who's ever done, or thought about doing a engine remove from car, and full overhaul?

My S3 engine is needing timing belt done, it's done close to 240,000 kays...
I was thinking about getting a second hand one from the wreckers and 'striping it back' and replacing maybe the valves, valve stem seals, valve guides, rods, maybe pistons....

Why, just so that I have an engine that will give me years of good fun, and also to give it a bit 'harder' internals if/when I go a bigger build..

Anyway, I don't have all the tools, even a garage at the moment, so just thinking about it. It started with the 'dream' to take out the engine and do the timing belt.... But whilst out, why not go the extra steps?

Really good video here of some guys doing this, they say it all went well and the car still drives fine,.... but who really knows!
Also they are much more skilled than I am!!

Talk me in/out of the idea please!
